ACTIVITÉS SCIENTIFIQUES

Thèmes de Recherche

My research, at the interface between neuroscience, psychology, and vision science, focuses on the relationship between  perception and action in the human brain – and more precisely in the visual system.

What kind of perception?

  • Mainly visual perception
  • But also auditory perception

What kind of action?

  • Ocular saccades, these rapid eye movements we generate (3 or 4 per second) when we explore our environment, look for an object or orient our gaze towards something that suddenly appears in our visual field.
  • Smooth pursuit, these continuous eye movements  we generate to track something that moves slowly in our visual field.

Perception is known to influence action, and action is known to influence perception.  Some questions on this issue are still unresolved. For example: Is size perception influenced by saccades’ modification (e.g., saccadic adaptation) ? What happens if saccades are modified by reinforcement learning?…

I test behavioral hypotheses using gaze-control paradigms. In these protocols, the presentation of stimuli depends on the observer’s eye movements and can occur before the observer finishes moving their eyes. This allows us to perfectly control the visual environment and study the plasticity of the visual system.
